Heritage Shoulder Bag
Sometime during the 1980s, or it might have been the early 1990s, several enterprising ex-Billingham employees set up in competition to their former employer. They were known as TEAM direct, and were based in Chapel Street, Lye, Stourbridge. They did a good deal of business by direct mail and were the originators of the Heritage range of canvas camera bags which CCS later took over. TEAM direct bags were made to the same exacting standards as Billingham bags. Indeed, some would claim that TEAM direct had better designs and, despite being cheaper than equivalent Billingham bags, were in fact better to use. Certainly their Gladstone style opening and integrated folding groundsheet were innovative, and the absence of brass studs on the underside of the bags saved many a car bonnet from damage to the paintwork.
Eventually the fledgling business was targeted and acquired by CCS - Camera Care Systems - and marketed as their premium ‘Heritage’ range. From time to time there were small design changes and new products, all of which kept to the vulcanized canvas, equestrian leather and brass fittings formula and competed against Billingham.
Under pressure from Far East competition, CCS discontinued the manufacture of all their ranges of camera bags in 2006.
