Westbury Railway Station
The next station down the line was bulldozed one weekend during the early 1980s. It was an attractive Victorian structure of charm and utility. The story went that decorators had arrived on site and found it to be structurally unsound. For years afterwards the station was a single Portakabin. Eventually some red brick structures were provided with the ticket office being built on the wrong side. The old canopies were never replaced - instead a few bus shelters were screwed to the platforms. Maybe in a hundred years, architectural historians will see some merit in it. Meanwhile I rejoice in this 'proper' railway station.
